MUD RUN!

So 6 of us girls participated in Fort Worth's 10th annual mud run this past weekend. This being my first one, I don't think there was anything that could have prepared me for the physical energy needed to finish this race. Here's a little info about it:

The dirtiest story fit to print in the Metroplex!

Mud Run is a combination of regular citizens, Civil Servants, companies, teams, colleges and some military personnel competing together through a series of boot camp styled obstacles that have been surrounded by (or consist entirely of) mud. The race is 10K and it is unique to the state of Texas. This is definitely not something you could set up in your backyard, last year's Fall run brought the entire community of the DFW Metroplex together and the Spring event was the most successful we have ever had. People cheered as teams of contestants slipped, slid, and sloshed their way to victory. It is a unique experience whether running or watching! It should be fun for the whole family.

It was CRAZY I tell ya and EXHAUSTING is such an understatement. It took us 2 1/2 hours to complete 6.3 miles (5 miles of running and 1.3 miles of military proof obstacles). By the end of the race I was POOPED! Hope you enjoy a "few" pics of this experience! =)

(hopefully next time it will be WARMER...burrrrr!)

She got a bath when we got home and was back to her normal, playing/biting the water self!!

Diesel was sooo glad to see her too.....it was quiet the reunion. This is currently what they are doing (which is pretty normal here at the Light house!)

Coozie update

This morning when I called to check on Coozie, they told me that she was such a trooper last night! (I think it's because she knows that I couldn't handle it without her). They took the IV out of her last night to rest, then hooked her back up this morning. She was doing sooo much better and that if everything continued on schedule she could POSSIBLY come home tomorrow!!! (they did follow that with "but please remember dogs with parvo are known to have ups and downs and no one can be sure of her outcome yet"....I didn't realy listen to that...I heard the first part and I'm NOT crying anymore!!!) They also told me that she chewed through her first IV this morning so she MUST be feeling better!!! =) (I'm sure they will charge me for that one too)

I went, again, after school to see my sweet little girl, and she no longer looked beat up!! She was trying to sit up in that awful little cage and she was waggin' her tail for me!! Still saying "please oh please get me outta here and I'll NEVER shred another piece of paper!". I wanted so badly to take her home then...but I know it's best that she stays.

After the nurse disinfected me, she said "and YOU look better yourself today too...no tears today!" haha.

Parvo is a B**** =(

Well....today is a VERY sad day. My sweet Coozie has come down with Parvo. We have NO IDEA where she got it....but that she does in fact have it. Royce took her in today (because I had to be at stupid work) and they admitted her IMMEDIATELY. They gave her an abundant round of shots and hooked her up to an IV. Since she has had some vaccinations in her system her chances of survival ARE good, but they didn't want me to get my hopes up completely =(

After work I rushed to Stephenville to go see her. I've cried all day mind you and they took me back to the back, out the back door and into the "quarantined" area.... where I cried again. When I walk inside the "doggie prison" and saw that she is in a cage that is clearly not big enough for a great dane....I cried some more. =( With all the shots they had given her, they had warned me, she would NOT look good. That was a COMPLETE understatement. She litterally looked like someone had punched her in her face (both eyes were completely swollen). I said "hi Coozie woozie" and she managed to give me a little, teeny-weeny tail wag...which made me cry....again. She lifted up her head as if she was saying "Get me outta here...I'm sorry for whatever I did" and then slammed it back down. And again...I cried. The nurse told me that everytime she threw up, they would have to give her another shot (an expensive shot that is). They would be keeping her on an IV for the next 3 days to see how she's doing. She has to go 24 hours on water and keep in down, then 24 more hours on food and keep it down. DEAR LORD, PLEASE SAVE MY COOZIE. I hate that she has to sleep in that awful place by her self, with no pillow or blanket or toy. =(

I'll keep you updated....but until then...most likely...I'll cry =(

I had to go home and disinfect EVERYTHING. I mopped the entire house with bleach water, bleached the food and water bowls and cleaned all the beddings and toys. My house now smells like a sterile hospital! But it will hopefully be PARVO free....we hope!

USTRC Finals in Oklahoma weekend

As posted in an earlier post, Royce and Cole qualified to rope in the team roping finals in Oklahoma this past weekend. Although it was a very "eventful" trip (from the truck smoking the entire way up there and back home....ole "skeeter" is it's new name - to being only ONE second out of making the short round (paying out at 98 thousand a team), we DID have a great time! It was such a great experience and we will DEFINITELY be returning again next year. I did come out with a kick ass pair of boots though....oh and $120 dollars profit from the casino on the way back!! Go me! Here are some pictures and a few videos of the boys doin' their thang! =)

Here are my new boots....

A "Coozie" update

It's been a while since I've updated you on Coozie (6 months actually). But I wanted to show you how MUCH she has grown in such a short period of time. When Coozie came to us she weighed approximately 17 pounds and was 8 weeks old......now, she's 6 months old (and 3 days to be exact) and weighs in at 80+ pounds. OH MY is right.... Royce and I can't believe it...she's almost as tall as Diesel and I am betting WILL be bigger than him before it's all said and done! Here she is when we first got her.....

and this is her now!

I love this "big" girl!!! =)

So Very Proud!

This weekend we headed down to Abilene for the Texas Plains Classic Team Roping Qualifier. I was a nervous wreck the closer to the short round we got...and when Royce and Cole were the high team back in the short round I can't even explain how nervous I was! Here are the stats and a few pictures of the "rewards"! They were 3 seconds ahead of everyone going into the short round and still won by 3 seconds at the end!

Winning the Twelve's division was Royce Light and Cole Barber
* 33.95 seconds on 4 steers
* $6,884.00 was the payout for winning first place
* A really NICE new saddle for each one
* A national shootout spot at the USTRC in Oklahoma next month

Also winning the incentive was Royce Light and Cole Barber
* 25.40 seconds on 3 steers
* 1,500.00 was the payout for winning this
* A Sweet new Belt Buckle for each
* A regional shootout spot at the USTRC in Oklahoma next month as well!

TOTAL Payout after splitting up the money.....
$ 4,192.00 each!!!! (not bad for a whole days work....I guess technically 33 seconds!!)

I'M ONE PROUD WIFE!!!

I'll post the "official" picture when we get it...but until then these should do!

"She Thinks My Tractors Sexy"

....and I DO!!!

We just bought a new John Deere tractor this weekend! With all the fence building Royce does and all the equipment that he has to rent to complete the job, it only made since to use the money that we were spending on renting....and put it towards something that is ours!

Royce is IN LOVE with this tractor....he hasn't gotten off of it much (which doesn't help the fact that I hardly saw him before the tractor and now when he is home...he's on it). But I will have to admit... I dig it too! I got to shred the entire back pasture all by myself! There was a little problem though (and if you ask Royce I am REALLY hard on equipment...something always seems to break or go wrong with things when I operate it)....well...apparently there is a weight limit sensor on the seat. If you don't weigh enough it will set off this obnoxiously loud beeping noise and won't shut up until there is enough weight back on the seat (I guess so if you fall off it will set off an alarm..who knows)...Well because apparently you have weigh MORE than 150 to operate this tractor. I was having a hard time so Royce had to come and "ride" along with me and put some extra weight on the seat so I could drive the stupid thing without the alarm. Hopefully we can come up with another idea to add weight so I don't have to hear that everytime I get on it!

Another reason for the tractor is to help fix up this place for a hopeful re-sale! He's going to be tearing down all the fences and re-building, adding an entrance, and hopefully building a smaller metal apartment to increase the value quite a bit! Having the new tractor around will sure come in handy with all that too! Who knows...he may fix it all up and then we decide we want to stay...either way it's a win-win situation!!

Nikki turns the BIG 25....ouch

Well...the time has come that I've dreaded for ages...the big 25. I am having a hard time with this. After this...it's rounded up to 3o...so I decided to stay 25 forever! Every year from here on out I WILL be 25! =)

Even though I didn't want to celebrate this dreaded day, my family drug me out (against my will) and took me to dinner. We had a great time, except for all the "old" jokes made at the table. Trent got me a $50 gift card to Wood N' Thangs (which I'm stoked about!), Mom and dad gave me money and a Margarita Machine (hell yeah!) and Royceee-poo got me a rockin' wood container! Some people use them for potatoes, but I think we will use it for a trash can....take a look...he did an AMAZING job (and even all by himself!!....the training must really be working!) hehe
